What Is an Aura Score?

5 min read · Updated July 2026

Your Aura Score is the single number that defines your standing in the AuraRate style community. Here's exactly how it works, what a good score looks like, and the most effective ways to raise it.

The Aura Score defined

Your Aura Score is the cumulative average of every rating your outfit posts have ever received on AuraRate. It lives at the top of your profile, visible to anyone who visits your page, and it updates in real time as new ratings come in.

Think of it as your reputation in the style community, distilled into a single number out of 10. A high Aura Score signals that the community consistently finds your outfits compelling. A lower score means there's room to grow, which is exactly the kind of honest signal AuraRate was designed to surface.

How your Aura Score is calculated

The math is straightforward: every time someone rates one of your outfit posts, that score is added to the total pool of ratings you've received. Your Aura Score is the running average of that entire pool.

If you have 5 posts and each has received 20 ratings, your Aura Score is calculated from those 100 ratings combined. The more ratings you accumulate, the more stable and representative your score becomes. Early on, a single high or low rating can swing your score noticeably. Over time, with hundreds of ratings, individual outliers matter less.

Importantly, each post's ratings carry equal weight regardless of when the post was made. An outfit you posted six months ago still contributes to your Aura Score today.

What counts as a good Aura Score?

AuraRate's community tends to rate generously but not carelessly. Most accounts with good style and consistent posting settle into the 6.5 to 8.0 range. Here's a rough guide to the score tiers:

Don't be discouraged by a score below 7.0 when you're starting out. Every user's score fluctuates, and the early-days number rarely reflects what your score will be after 50 or 100 posts.

How to raise your Aura Score

Your Aura Score responds directly to the quality of your posts and the size of your engaged audience. Here are the most effective levers to pull:

Post consistently

Accounts that post regularly attract more followers and more ratings. More ratings means a more accurate score and more opportunities for high scores to bring your average up. Even one strong post per week keeps your profile active and visible in the community feed.

Use good lighting and composition

Raters score what they can see. Outfits photographed in natural light, with a clear full-length frame, consistently score higher than the same outfits photographed poorly. Before you post, ask yourself: can a stranger see every element of this outfit clearly? If not, retake the photo.

Wear standout outfits

The AuraRate community rewards outfits that have a clear, considered point of view. That doesn't mean flashy or trendy: a perfectly executed minimalist outfit scores just as well as an avant-garde statement look. What the community responds to is intention. Outfits that look like they were thought about, not thrown together.

Engage with the community

Follow creators whose style you respect, rate their outfits, and leave genuine comments. Users you interact with are more likely to engage with your posts in return. A more engaged follower base translates directly into more ratings and a more robust Aura Score over time.

Learn from your highest-scoring posts

Look at which of your posts have your highest individual scores and ask yourself what they have in common. Specific colors? A particular type of outfit? A certain level of formality? Your own data is the best style guide you can have, and AuraRate gives you exactly that data.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting a post affect my Aura Score?

Yes. When you delete a post, all of its ratings are removed from your Aura Score calculation. Your score will recalculate based on your remaining posts.

Can someone artificially inflate or tank my Aura Score?

AuraRate has systems in place to detect and remove rating manipulation. Genuine community ratings from real accounts are what count toward your score.

Is my Aura Score visible to everyone?

Yes. Your Aura Score appears publicly on your profile. It's one of the first things other users see when they visit your page.

How many posts do I need before my Aura Score stabilizes?

Most users find their score stabilizes meaningfully after 10 to 15 posts with multiple ratings each. Before that, small sample sizes can cause noticeable swings.
